Popular transgender, Chyna Gibson killed in New Orleans

She's now the fifth transgender woman to be killed in 2017. Gibson was fatally shot in New Orleans on Saturday February 25, 2017 while she was in town celebrating Mardi Gras.

According to reports, multiple gunshots were heard at the 4300 block of Downman Road, outside of a shopping center around 8:30 p.m. Gibson was found between two parked cars and pronounced dead at the scene.

Malawian police arrest woman for terminating her 6-month-old pregnancy

A 22-year-old Malawian woman from Mbawela village in Thyolo, has been arrested for aborting her 6-month-old baby and burying it at her place of work. The suspect identified as Fyness Maseya reportedly committed the act on Sunday, February 12, 2017. 

Indonesian man collapses after caning for breaking Islamic law

A 27-year-old Indonesian man collapsed while being publicly caned for standing with a woman who is not his wife in contravention of strict Islamic laws. Herizal bin Yunus, who was one of eight people publicly punished on Monday for breaking the province's Islamic regulations, fainted after being caned eight times in front of a crowd in Aceh.
Officials carried him off stage after he collapsed during the punishment outside a mosque in the provincial capital Banda Aceh.

Ghanaian traditional leader threatens to ban spiritual gatherings over false prophecies

Naba Asigri Abugragoe Azoka II, Paramount Chief of the Bawku traditional area in Ghana, has threatened to ban spiritual gatherings over the increasing numbers of people posing as men of God and misleading the public with false prophecies. In a statement, he issued to all the Churches in the Bawku area last weekend, he said false prophecies were generating problems, with some family members being accused of witchcraft and causing harm to their family. 

Lagos state govt to crush over 4000 impounded motorcycles

Speaking with journalists at the Olusosun refuse dump site in Ojota, the State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni on Monday, said the government will start crushing and recycling over 4,000 impounded commercial motorcycles, (aka Okada) in line with the provisions of the State Traffic Law of 2012. Owoseni said the recent restriction on Okadas was due to the government’s resolve to fight security concerns posed by criminal operators, adding that criminals habitually use okada to perpetrate crime and easily get away from the scene of the crime.

Oscars 2017 mix-up: "La La Land" accepts the award for best picture before "Moonlight" is announced as the actual winner.

What happened last night at the Oscars was very similar to what happened at the 2016 Miss Universe pageant when Steve Harvey read the name of the runner up as the winner. Actress/presenter Faye Dunaway did same last night by awarding "La La Land" as the best picture Oscar that should have gone to "Moonlight."

Reports in Spain have it that Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho is in regular contact with Barcelona's Neymar in a bid to bring the star forward to England. According to Spanish newspaper SPORT, Mourinho has been trying to sell Neymar on the move by explaining how the transfer would benefit the attacker's career and allow him to develop as a player.

Salome Kwarwah, Liberian nurse who survived Ebola dies from pregnancy complications

 Salome Kwarwah, a Liberian nurse who survived the deadly Ebola epidemic passed away from pregnancy complications on February 22, 2017. She was age 28.
Salome thought her life was over when she tested positive for Ebola, which killed her parents.  But after recovering at the Elwa 3 Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Ebola treatment center in Monrovia,Liberia, she began working as a mental health counselor there, helping others to fight the virus. She told her story before her demise:

A family of seven returning from church escaped death after a Nigerian Army truck rammed into their car on Saturday night in Calabar, Cross River State.
According to one of the survivors, they were returning from a church service at Word Alive Church located at Anating by Atu street when their vehicle, a white coloured 2008 model Lexux RX33O SUV was hit by the green Toyota Hilux truck with license registration “ARMY 933” and somersaulted.

Mohit Goel, the director of Ringing Bells, the Indian firm which claimed to be selling the world’s cheapest smartphone, has been arrested on allegations of fraud.
The Indian Police Service arrested him after one of the phone’s distributors claimed it had not received handsets it had paid for.
The distribution company, Ayam Enterprises, who is accusing Ringing Bells of not fulfilling all of its orders. said it paid 3m rupees ($45K) after Mr Goel persuaded it to distribute the phone.
