APC threatens to expel member seeking third term for Buhari

APC threatens to expel member seeking third term for Buhari
The All Progressives Congress (APC) seems to have severed its ties with its member who filed a lawsuit in which he sought for the amendment of the constitution to allow President Muhammadu Buhari contest for a third term in office.

Recall LIB reported that Charles Enya, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state who served as the organising secretary for President Buhari's campaign organization during the 2019 general election filed the suit before a Federal High Court in Abakiliki. He alleged that the two-term tenure limit for presidents and governors was “discriminatory” when compared with the provision made for lawmakers in Nigeria.

The APC however distanced itself from Enya in a statement released on Thursday November 28, by its spokesperson Lanre Issa-Onilu.

Insisting that the APC does not have space for “anti-democratic forces and charlatans”, Lanre stated that there is a possibility that Enya is being sponsored by the “desperate and misguided opposition”. He stated that they will use every legal means to thwart Enya's devilish efforts to create chaos in the country

“The All Progressives Congress (APC)read in the media about a purported legal action taken by a self-proclaimed member of the Party, Charles Enya, seeking an amendment of the constitution to allow President Muhammadu Buhari run for a third term in office,” the statement read.
“The Party had initially chosen to ignore him. However, it has become important to send a clear message to him and such other agents provocateurs.
“At the last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Party, President Buhari didn’t mince words and he is not the type that talks tongue-in-cheek. He pointedly said he would abide by the constitution and uphold the oath of office he took, swearing by the holy book he believes in. This he said was besides his advanced age which made such an idea beyond his contemplation.
“The NEC meeting highlights released to the media by the party equally quoted the President admonishing APC members, leaders and elected officials to reposition themselves in their respective constituencies so as to sustain the administration’s landmark legacies beyond 2023 when the President’s constitutionally permitted terms end.
“The president said history would not be fair to members if the APC collapses after his second term. What better proof is required of the President’s resolve to abide by the constitution on term limit?
“The Party is, however, by this statement sending a strong signal to such other busybodies like Charles Enya who may be contemplating testing the resolve of our government on our mission to work for the best for our country to be ready to face the law.
“As a party, we would not take kindly to anyone or group causing unnecessary distraction for this administration through anti-democratic actions,” he said.
“We have tried to find out the status of this character claiming to be a member of our party. If he turns out to be our member, we would ensure the party organ that has the responsibility to act on this matter promptly commence the process of expelling him.”

There is no where in the bible that says cosmetic surgery is wrong- Pastor Tony Rapu (video)

There is no where in the bible that says cosmetic surgery is wrong- Pastor Tony Rapu (video)
As the conversation on cosmetic surgery and the morality of it continues, popular Lagos pastor, Tony Rapu, has come out to discredit the argument in some quarters that it is ungodly to have ehnance your body.

In a video he posted on his IG page, the clergyman said there is no where in the bible that says cosmetic surgery is wrong, However he pointed out that if a plastic surgery is done solely with the aim of becoming more sexually appealling, then there is a problem with the person psychologically.

''The bible is silent about plastic surgery and there is really nothing in it that tells us it is wrong, so there has to be other considerations. If a person If a person is concious of a deformity or physical aspect of  his or her body that is causing them some emotional discomfort, then cosmetic surfery is certainly an option. There are women who have had mastectomies and have had to have breast implants and we know many people who have benefited from surgerues, especially when the surgery is non-invasive and the side effects are minimal.
There really is nothing wrong with enhancing the quality of a person's life by surgery especially when the person is able to breathe better, walk better, or talk better and especially when psychological health is improved.
The challenge is when surgery begins to be an attempt to meet an emotional void in a physical way or to attract unnecessary attention to a person, or to seek approval from other people. In some of these cases, we are then beginning to deal with psychological issues or deep seated insecurities in a person. If surgery is for sexual attractiveness, simply because you want to be found more sexually attractive, then perhaps you are dealing with a deeper issue in terms of esteem.
So if surgery is for enhancing a vanity, then we are dealing with issues internally that surgery would probaby never be able to satisfy''he said

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey says he's moving to Africa for at least three months in 2020 because the continent will 'define the future'

Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and mobile payments company Square, has hinted that he may move to Africa for at least three months next year.

"Sad to be leaving the continent…for now. Africa will define the future (especially the bitcoin one!). Not sure where yet, but I'll be living here for 3-6 months mid 2020" Dorsey tweeted.

The bearded, 43-year-old tech exec was in Ethiopia this week, as part of a month-long tour across the continent that he tweeted he was making in October. He said he would be meeting with entrepreneurs in Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa.

Dorsey is known for his world travels and sometimes-eccentric practices. He said he was in Melbourne, Australia in September, and in Myanmar last December, where he said he celebrated his birthday with a 10-day silent vipassana meditation.

Whether Dorsey's trip to the continent signals a change remains to be seen. But he's not the only tech bigwig travelling to Africa. Former Alibaba Group chairman Jack Ma was also in Ethiopia this week, signing an agreement to establish a new trade platform.

Village head arrested for kidnapping in Kaduna

Village head arrested for kidnapping in Kaduna

A village head in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State accused of working with kidnappers has been paraded alongside 38 others arrested for various offences in the state.

Some of the arrested suspects include the gang that killed two of their abductees after collecting N2.8 million ransom and two persons linked with the kidnap of six female students and two teachers of Engravers College, Kaduna.

The village head identified as Samaila Luka was accused of giving information to kidnappers including those who killed a policeman after collecting a ransom, in exchange for a share in the money collected.

Luka who admitted getting a share from some ransom paid, however denied working for kidnappers.

According to him, “I have helped people to take ransom to the kidnappers three times. The first time, the kidnappers rewarded me with N100,000, the second time, they gave me N50,000, but the third time, they didn’t give me anything.
“I know nothing about the policeman the kidnappers killed. God and the police woman who was released are my witnesses. When I took the ransom to them, that was the third time I took ransom to the kidnappers, but after collecting it, they refused to give me the policeman. Me and the other police woman cried and begged them, but they refused. They said the policeman used to insult them. That day, they even collected my phone and they didn’t give me any money,” he said.

Daily Trust reported that the state's police spokesperson, DSP Yakubu Sabo Abubakar disclosed that they have succeeded in reducing crime in the state.

‘‘Recently, the command has been relatively calm, as the bandits can no longer carry out coordinated attacks largely due to our strategic deployment as well as the public support we receive which forced the criminals to resort to soft targets on the outskirts and hamlets where there are no firm security structures.
“However, the command has intensified efforts towards ensuring safety and security of the populace through some coordinated raiding of criminal hideouts by our gallant operatives and the IGP’s Special Tactical Squad (STS) and IRT as well as active Community Engagement Initiative in line with the Inspector General of Police mandate on community policing. Some of these suspects confessed to series of kidnappings within and outside the state.
“We also recovered ten AK47 rifles, four pump action, two locally made pistols, one locally made gun, 154 live ammunition, 17 cartridges, four vehicles, four motorcycles among others.
“In view of the successes recorded and the drastic reduction in crime rate in the command within the period under review, we cannot afford to relent on our efforts to sustain the gains. I therefore, reiterate my call to the general public to continue to be supportive of the police,” he said.

Queen Elizabeth ‘to retire in 18 months’ for Charles to become Prince Regent

Queen Elizabeth ?to retire in 18 months? for Charles to become Prince Regent
Prince Charles is reportedly preparing to take over leadership of the British Royals when his mother, The Queen turns 95.

The Queen’s oldest son met with his father at Sandringham yesterday, November 26, to discuss the continuing fallout from his brother’s disastrous TV interview about his links to Jeffry Epstein.

Prince Charles’ key role in "retiring" Prince Andrew from public life has fed speculation he is preparing to become "shadow King", which would see him control day-to-day royal affairs while his mother remains monarch.

Queen Elizabeth will turn 95 in 18 months. 95 was also the age at which her husband Prince Philip withdrew from his public duties.

There is talk among courtiers that she may use the milestone to allow her son to become Prince Regent, the Sun reports.

A royal source told the paper: "The scandal surrounding Andrew and Epstein gave Charles an opportunity to step in to show that he can run The Firm. No one is bigger than the institution of the Royal Family. Not even Andrew, the Queen’s favourite son.

"Charles recognised that and acted decisively — like the king he may well soon be. This was the moment when Charles stepped up as Prince Regent, the Shadow King"

Nine prison officials suspended for helping 'H-money' pull off $1m scam from prison

Nine prison officials suspended for helping
Nine officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have been suspended by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) after being implicated in the $1m scam pulled off by Hope Olusegun Aroke, an inmate serving a term of imprisonment in Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Lagos.

It was reported earlier that EFCC operatives arrested Emmanuel Oluwaniyi and Hemeson Edson Edwin who are both deputy controllers of the Nigerian Correctional Service, for allegedly giving exaggerated medical reports which warranted a convicted internet fraudster Hope Olusegun Aroke, who is serving a 24-year jail term to be given a referral to be treated outside the facility.

Spokesman of the service, Controller of Corrections Francis Enobore who announced the suspension of its staff, said the decision was taken following their indictment in the scandal.

“This is based on the preliminary report of the investigation panel earlier constituted by the Controller General of the Service, Jaáfaru Ahmed which indicted the officers in the scandal,” the statement read in part.

Nigerian fraudster, Nnamdi Mgbodile charged with $6.5m romance scam in?Atlanta
A Nigerian man identified as Nnamdi Marcellus Mgbodile, living in Marietta, Georgia, United States has been arraigned on twenty counts of bank fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

He was docked on November 19th before the U.S. Magistrate Judge Janet F. King. A federal grand jury indicted Mgbodile on November 6, 2019. Mgbodile was docked the same day that Air Peace chairman, Allen Onyema was also accused of money laundering and bank fraud by the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Georgia.

One of Mgbodile’s alleged victims, a woman reportedly lost $6.5million to him via romance scam, while he failed to pull through a Business E-mail Compromise Scam of $350,000.
“Online romance scams and business email compromise frauds have increasingly become the method of choice for transnational fraudsters targeting U.S. residents and companies,” said U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak, who made the announcement of Mgbodile’s indictment and arraignment on Wednesday in Atlanta.
“In this case, a single victim allegedly lost millions. This is a stark reminder that users of online dating websites should be aware of such scams and exercise extreme caution if asked for money by anyone online or over the phone.”
“This investigation and subsequent indictment demonstrates the commitment the Secret Service and our partners have in aggressively pursuing those who commit online fraud scams,” said Malcolm D. Wiley, Sr., Acting Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service, Atlanta Field Office.
“This case serves as a reminder to all, particularly during the holiday season, to ensure protocols related to cyber hygiene are observed.”
According to U.S. Attorney Pak, the charges, and other information presented in court, Mgbodile was allegedly involved in two fraudulent schemes, a romance scam that defrauded a Virginia woman out of more than $6.5 million, and a business email compromise (“BEC”) scam in which Mgbodile and others attempted to defraud a Georgia company of nearly $350,000.

Three men wrongly jailed for life, set free after 36 years in prison (photos)

Three men wrongly jailed for life, set free after 36 years in prison (photos)
Three Baltimore men who were wrongly imprisoned for 36 years in Maryland, United States have been set free after a review of the murder case they were prosecuted for.

The three men identified as Alfred Chestnut, Ransom Watkins and Andrew Stewart, were reportedly teenagers when they were sentenced to life in prison in 1984. They were accused of being responsible for the murder of 14-year-old DeWitt Duckett who was shot in the neck on his way to class at a Baltimore junior high school and also stealing his Georgetown University jacket.

They were released from custody on Monday November 25, hours after a judge cleared their convictions and prosecutors dropped the charges.
"These three men were convicted, as children, because of police and prosecutorial misconduct," Baltimore state attorney Marilyn Mosby said after the men were released.
In a statement, her office said "detectives targeted the three men, all 16-year-old black boys, using coaching and coercion of other teenage witnesses to make their case".

Speaking at a press conference after they were released, Watkins said:

"This should have never happened. Somebody's got to pay for this," he said. "You can't just leave this like this. This fight is not over."
Stewart on the other hand said "When I got the information, I cried, and I didn't know how to stop crying until a friend of mine came to me and hugged me and said, 'Man your journey is coming to an end,' but it is not, my journey is just beginning, because I got to learn how to live right now."

It was learnt the case was reopened earlier this year by the office of Baltimore City State's Attorney Mosby after Chestnut sent a letter to the Conviction Integrity Unit. The Washington Post reported Chestnut included exculpatory evidence he uncovered last year.

During examinations the Baltimore prosecutor's office found errors in the investigation and the new review concluded that a different student, who was 18 at the time of the crime was the shooter.

The new suspect who was shot dead in 2002 was seen fleeing from the scene and dumping a gun as police arrived at Harlem Park Junior High School, but authorities at the time focused their investigation on the trio.

"Everyone involved in this case - school officials, police, prosecutors, jurors, the media, and the community - rushed to judgment and allowed their tunnel vision to obscure obvious problems with the evidence," said Shawn Armbrust, executive director of the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project, which represents Watkins.
Armbrust added that "this case should be a lesson to everyone that the search for quick answers can lead to tragic results".

African culture of respecting the elderly is being destroyed by Western civilization - Buhari

African culture of respecting the elderly is being destroyed by Western civilization - Buhari
President Buhari pleaded with the ECOWAS Parliament to create policies that will take care of the elderly in the society in his speech on Monday November 25, at the regional political and economic union's conference on the rights of older people.

Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, George Akume who presented President Buhari's speech at the event stated that the African culture of respecting the elderly has been eroded by western civilization.

He said "because of Western civilisation, our traditions that bestow honour and respect to the elderly are worsening.
"All Africans should hold unto that tradition because it is our duty to bring glory and honour to our elderly and we cannot sit back for others to do it for us."
The president added “We need to wakeup to the challenges of older persons in the region. We also need to collaborate and join efforts with other nations both local and international to fight for the rights of older persons globally.”

President Buhari further disclosed that his administration is working hard to support the elderly across the country and some of these measures include the Senior Citizens Act of 2018.

“The Act serves to cater for the needs of the elderly; a harmonised pension scheme and a mandatory pre-retirement training.”
He added that the government is also working to ensure that other “benefits such as healthcare are subsidised.”

'He's black' - Brescia FC president Massimo Cellino makes racist remark about Mario Balotelli

Massimo Cellino, the president of Italian football club, Brescia has made a racist remark about his own club's striker, Mario Balotelli.

This comes days after the former Manchester City and Liverpool striker was a target of racist chants during a match at Hellas Verona. The incident made the 29-year-old forcefully play the ball into the crowd and even threatened to leave the field.

On Saturday, Balotelli was dropped from his club's 3-0 defeat by Roma after he reportedly stormed out of training following an argument with his coach Fabio Grosso.

When asked about Balotelli on Monday, Massimo Cellino said: 'He's black, what can I say, he's working on clearing himself but he's having a lot of difficulty.'

Brescia quickly released a statement insisting that their president was only joking in his comment.

The statement read: 'Concerning the declarations released this afternoon by President Massimo Cellino, referring to our player Mario Balotelli, Brescia Calcio evidently deals with a paradoxical joke, clearly misunderstood, released in an attempt to defuse excessive media exposure and with intent to protect the player himself.'
