We will enact death penalty for culprits found guilty of desecrating the Qu'ran - Governor Matawalle of Zamfara says


Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle has announced that his government will be enacting a death penalty for those found guilty of desecrating the holy Qur’an in the state.

The Zamfara State Governor who disclosed this after receiving a report from the committee for the review of activities of the State Ministry of Religious Affairs, religious Commissions and committees under the leadership of the former State Deputy Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad, said it was sad that residents of the state will carry out the unholy act of desecrating the holy Qur’an. 

Asides enacting the capital punishment to check the said offence in the state, Governor Matawalle also promised that his administration will be watching Shariah court judges closely to see how they handle such cases. According to him, erring judges will be handed a severe punishment alongside the offender. 

Daily Trust reported that the Governor also appealed to Islamic scholars in the state to sensitize people on the importance of peace, unity and love for one another for the purpose of having a purified society that is free from all crimes.
