There was a mild drama that played out in Kogi state yesterday when members of the state vigilante group prevented operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, from arresting the senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye.
Melaye who was declared ''wanted'' by the police on March 28th after six criminals, two of them linked to him, escaped from police custody. The criminals have all been re-arrested.
Dino arrived the state in company of Senate President Bukola Saraki and other colleagues for the 8th fidau prayers for late Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Buba Jubril, in Lokoja.
SARS officials acting on an order, attempted to arrest Dino when he was spotted at the event. They stormed the Kabawa Primary school lokoja where the prayer was holding but could not effect the arrest order as members of the vigilante group encircled Dino. After the prayers, they led him into the waiting vehicle of senate president Bukola Saraki
A second attempt to arrest Dino at the reception failed as Dino left the venue in company of the Senate President to the late Buba’s House from where they left for Obajana airstrip for a flight to Kastina.
