The deceased whose name has been given as Afia, her two children and her new lover were burnt beyond recognition while they slept Monday dawn. Family of the deceased suspect the gruesome murder was committed by one Godfred, who was an ex-lover of Afia and a pastor at her church.
Sister of Afia, Theresa Abu Abugri said she woke up around midnight and saw someone splashing petrol on their wooden structure and lit a match to set the place ablaze.
Theresa said she run to save her life but got injured in the process. She, however, could not see the face of the suspected arsonist but claims it could be an ex-boyfriend of her sister who had earlier threatened to kill the deceased for jilting him.
The Suame District Police Commander, Superintendent Prince Jude Cobbinah, said investigations have commenced into the alleged arson. “Initially, we thought the incident was a mere fire outbreak which resulted in the death of four but we later picked signals that it may be an arson so we have commenced investigations.
“Anyone found culpable would be brought to face the law”, he added. Eleven makeshift structures which accommodate some migrants from the three regions of the north were razed down as a result of the fire.
