Mo Abudu attended an event at the Eko Hotel and Suites over the weekend and at the entrance of the hotel, met these young boys, 10 and 11 years old, who live in Agege, Lagos but come to the Island to perform outside the premises of any big events to get cash gifts from their admisrers. According to the boys, the use they money to support their mother and also pay their school fees.
Mo posted videos of herself and her friends interrogating the aspiring rappers and wrote
I was out at an Event at Eko Hotel last night with some of my friends - @ruthosime, @prideandjoylagos, @abiolaotufale. On our way out around midnight, the most interesting thing happened. Waiting for our cars to pull up we bump into 2 young boys rapping, Mubarak and Olamilekan. Aged 11 and 10. They come to Eko Hotel to entertain guests and of course get tipped. Now street busking is not a new phenomena, my concern was why 2 young underage boys will be out doing this at midnight. In our short interview with them, ( yep at times I speak Yoruba ), I found out they do this to raise money for their school fees and to support their mothers. I have collected his phone number and I intend to reach out. I will keep you posted on how these discussions go. We must do better for our children. Please #slideleft to see the rest of this video.
