According to statistics available at the Greater Accra Directorate of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), more vehicles have been registered in the first week of 2017 than in the same period in 2016.

Surprisingly, Car owners were not stranded and frustrated as in previous years to register their vehicles and obtain the 2017 number plates.

Deputy Director of DVLA in Greater Accra, Alhaji Iddrisu Hussein speaking with Kasapa Fm’s Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman said four hundred and seventy (470) vehicles were registered on Tuesday, January, 3rd being the first day at work in 2017.

He said five hundred and thirty seven (537) vehicles were registered on 4Th January and four hundred and thirty three (433) cars registered on 5Th January with additional four hundred and seventy six (476) vehicles registered on Friday, 6TH January, 2017.

Alhaji Iddrisu Hussein revealed that the total of one thousand, nine hundred and sixteen vehicles registered in the first week of January, 2017 are far more than the nine hundred and eighty four (984) vehicles registered in the same period in 2016.

He explained that the management of DVLA put measures in place to avoid overcrowding of vehicles at the Accra Regional Office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) near the 37 Military Hospital.

“One of the plan was seeking the assistance of police officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) and the Airport Police Station to control traffic and maintain order at its office” he added.
