The Flagstaff House
Twenty-three persons aspiring to become president of Ghana have picked up nomination forms to contest in this year’s December 7 presidential elections, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Ms. Charlote Osei, has announced.

The figure is made up of 16 political party presidential aspirants and seven independent aspirants. They are to return the fully filled forms with a filing fee of GHC50,000 by September 29,2016.

Ms. Osei said this Friday at the launch of an electoral guide designed by the Commission with the support of USAID.

She advised all the aspirants who have picked up the forms to carefully read and understand the questions therein before answering them to avoid being disqualified at the last minute.

Dubbed ‘a guide to candidates and their agents,’ the document contains all the dos and don’ts covering the December 7 general elections.

The three-part document spells out who qualifies as a candidate to be voted for, who a polling agent is as well as their duties among others.

The third section gives basic information about general elections and EC officials – Returning and Deputy Returning officers, Presiding Officers and Polling Assistants and their duties.

It also states clearly who qualifies to enter a polling station, and how election results are declared among others.
